Pool Slide Safety: 4 Tips to Ensure a Fun Experience for Swimmers More than swimming pool toys and diving boards, a pool supply is a thrilling addition to any pool – it’s like introducing a mini water park into your home. Responsible pool owners, however, recognize how important it is to practice smart and vigilant pool safety when it comes to the slide to ensure good, tragedy-free fun. If you have a pool slide or are considering installing one, here are four safety tips that will help you and your swimmers maintain a welcoming and safe pool environment for all to appreciate. - Research before you buy. Do not use an in-ground pool slide for an above-ground pool, and vice versa. Make sure your pool is deep enough to accommodate the specific slide you intend to buy. Read the instruction manual carefully – before making your purchase – to determine how much space you need around the deck area, and to decide which direction your slide should be positioned. The sizes of your backyard and pool are important considerations in deciding which type of pool slide is best for your family and property.
 - Consider who will be using the slide. Teens and adults will enjoy a tall slide with many twists and turns, while younger children will be content – and perhaps more comfortable – with a simple, straight shot down. Let this factor into your purchase of your pool supply.
- Follow proper installation and maintenance procedures. The slide should be securely anchored to the deck. Regularly tighten screws and other hardware, and visually inspect the slide to confirm it is in good, working condition. Hose down the slide to ensure debris or other harmful items are not lodged in it. Observe weight maximums, which are usually 250-300 pounds. Allowing heavier swimmers to use the slide may result in injury to the swimmer, damage to the slide, and subsequent injury to any sliders who follow on the broken apparatus.
 - Instruct sliders on safe usage. Sliding feet first is advised, and only one person should ride the slide at any one time. Avoid carrying toys or other devices with you when you slide. An adult should be present to oversee young sliders and guarantee the water where they will enter is clear of swimmers and other obstructions such as toys and inflatables. An accidental collision could seriously injure both parties.
When it comes to pool supply, true fun can only follow safety. Regular vigilance will help you maintain a safe environment.
